dry ice pelletizer

The dry ice pelletizer is a specialized machine designed to convert liquid carbon dioxide into dry ice pellets through rapid expansion and extrusion. It is widely used in dry ice blasting, industrial cooling, cold chain transportation, and dry ice processing applications.
The machine can continuously produce high-density dry ice pellets with uniform size. The pellets can be used directly in dry ice blasting machines without any secondary processing.

According to different production requirements, the dry ice pelletizer is available in multiple models ranging from SL-50 to SL-500, covering capacities from small-scale use to industrial continuous production.

Working Principle of The Dry ice pellet maker

The dry ice pelletizer uses liquid CO₂ as raw material. Inside a sealed system, the liquid CO₂ is rapidly expanded, cooled, and compressed, converting it into solid dry ice.

The dry ice is then extruded through a forming die to produce pellets and discharged directly through the outlet.
The machine can be equipped with single-outlet or dual-outlet discharge pipes, depending on site requirements.

Dry ice containers can be placed directly under the discharge outlet, allowing the pellets to fall directly into the container, reducing intermediate handling, minimizing loss, and improving operating efficiency.

Main Features (Based on Technical Parameters)

  • Wide capacity range with multiple models: Production capacity ranges from 50 to 500 kg/h, allowing flexible model selection for different project scales.
  • High pellet density and stable quality: Dry ice density reaches 1550 kg/m³, producing compact pellets with good strength and low breakage.
  • High CO₂ conversion efficiency: Liquid-to-solid CO₂ conversion ratio is ≥ 42%, helping reduce raw material consumption and improve efficiency.
  • Uniform pellet specifications: Pellet sizes range from Φ3 to Φ19 mm (some models support Φ3–Φ16 mm), suitable for direct use in dry ice blasting machines.
  • Single or dual outlet configuration: Flexible discharge options allow better matching with downstream equipment and site layout.
  • Direct discharge into containers: Dry ice container can be placed directly below the outlet, simplifying operation and reducing labor requirements.

Main Models and Technical Range

The dry ice pelletizer series includes SL-50, SL-100, SL-150, SL-200, SL-300, and SL-500, with corresponding capacities of 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 / 300 / 500 kg/h.

Machine power ranges from 3 kW to 18.5 kW, total weight ranges from 200 to 2500 kg, and dimensions are optimized according to each model for easy installation and plant layout.

Applications of The Dry Ice Pellets

Dry ice pellets produced by this machine are widely used in the following fields:

  • Dry ice blasting and cleaning: Pellets can be fed directly into dry ice blasting machines for non-abrasive, residue-free cleaning of molds, equipment, and components.
  • Industrial cooling and temperature control: Suitable for localized cooling, temporary temperature reduction, and special industrial processes.
  • Cold chain transportation and preservation: Used for low-temperature transport of food, fresh products, pharmaceuticals, and medical supplies.
  • Dry ice processing and distribution: Pellets can be sold directly as products or used as feedstock for dry ice block machines.

System Configuration Options

In practical projects, the dry ice pelletizer can be used as a standalone machine or integrated with other equipment, such as:

The complete solution can be customized based on production capacity, application requirements, and automation level.
